Dr. Jyothsna S. Bhat is a clinical psychologist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a part-time private practice in Newtown, Pa. She also recently began work at Children’s Specialized Hospital (a rehabilitation hospital associated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital) in New Jersey. At CSH she not only provides therapy for children, but also conducts full standard battery psychological assessments for children with chronic medical issues who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems, as well as children with pervasive developmental disorders such as Autism. She has over 10 years experience as a therapist and while she was a student at Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, OH, where she received her doctorate degree. Among her areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, childhood problems, and couples and family therapy. Previously, she worked with the geriatric population for a few years, providing therapy, assessment, and consultation as part of an integrative team, in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Additionally, she has participated in several free medical fairs locally in Trenton, NJ, as well as disaster relief work in Mississippi and Haiti.

On her spare time, she mentors youth in transitional living in Trenton. She has given a few workshops and talks on the importance of mental health in a few cities such as Philadelphia, Dallas (online), and New Jersey, and she generally enjoys participating in advocacy for psychology. She has written a few blogs for the National Registry of Health Service Providers http://findapsychologist.org journal which included a discussion of the stigma of mental health illness in the South Asian population. Dr. Bhat was a Recipient of the 2006 Psychologists for Social Responsibility Award. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and National Registry of Health Service Providers. Her hobbies include, music, dance, writing, dogs, and travel.
